Can Christians Go to Therapy? Breaking the Stigma in the Church
By Be Made Whole Counseling
For many Christians, the idea of going to therapy feels… complicated. On one hand, you believe in the power of prayer, Scripture, and spiritual healing. On the other hand, you might be struggling with anxiety, trauma, or emotional pain that doesn’t seem to go away, no matter how much you pray.
So the question arises: Can Christians go to therapy?
And more importantly, should they?
At Be Made Whole Counseling, we want to answer this with a resounding yes—faith and therapy are not in conflict. They work beautifully together.
Faith and Therapy Aren’t Opposites
Some Christians are taught that going to therapy shows a lack of faith or that needing emotional support is a sign of weakness. But this couldn’t be further from the truth.
Throughout Scripture, God uses people to help people.
- He placed counselors and advisors in the courts of kings
- He appointed leaders like Moses and Paul, who needed help from others
- And He sent the Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us
If you broke your leg, you’d go to a doctor. If your soul is hurting, why wouldn’t you seek help for that, too?
Jesus Is the Ultimate Counselor—And He Works Through People
Isaiah 9:6 calls Jesus the Wonderful Counselor. And while He can heal supernaturally, He also works through trained individuals—faith-filled people who understand both spiritual truth and emotional health.
Therapy helps you process pain, recognize unhealthy patterns, and begin healing in a safe, supportive space. When you add biblical guidance to that process, you’re not replacing God—you’re inviting Him in.
What Christian Therapy Looks Like
At Be Made Whole, therapy is:
- Rooted in the Word of God
- Led by trained facilitators and faith counselors
- Centered around group support, guided workbooks, and spiritual growth
- Grounded in grace, not judgment
You’ll never be told to “just get over it” or “pray it away.” Instead, you’ll be lovingly guided through the process of uncovering wounds, Christian Counseling, renewing your mind, and reconnecting with who God created you to be.
Still Not Sure? You’re Not Alone
Many of our members were hesitant at first. They didn’t want to be labeled or misunderstood. But the moment they joined, they realized they had entered a community that gets it—spiritually, emotionally, and practically.
You don’t have to choose between therapy and faith.
You can choose both, and finally be made whole.
